I have been trying to find a part time job. I tried listing myself as a tutor and I did not receive any responses. I applied some tutoring places and was denied due to lack of openings or the fact that I will not have certification until December. I tried another organization but they want you to do in home tutoring of which I am just not comfortable with doing.
I applied to some retail stores in the mall near my school and was denied 1. too much experience/ education, 2. no daytime availability.
What is a girl to do? I need a part time job, the extra cash is necessary.
Any suggestions, I live in Maryland....???? I am thinking of just going to McDonald's...

I thought you were already a certified teacher? That is probably going to limit your options in the field then.
What you could do is look up temporary or staffing agencies in your area. There are all kind of jobs at those places. Filing, processing, data entry, there's a number of office jobs out there they pay somebody to do. There are also retail stores in the mall and such. Are you good with selling and don't mind commission? Not that McDonald's is a bad place to work or anything, but a food service job takes little to no skill.
Just out of curiosity, why do you now need a part time job? Is there a way to reduce your expenses to better fit your current income?
Hey Jim. I will be certified in December. Unless you go through a teacher education program you have to take aditional courses and a state required mentor program which is a fall only option (the reason why I have to wait). I realize that will limit me. I have actually wanted a part time job since January and still have not found one. I have tried the mall which is not close and local stores. Mcdonalds was a last resort of course.
But I got a bite on the tutoring thing and I am ready to go. I will tutor a little boy two times a week for fifty bucks. (price is low but more as a favor to a single mom so its cool I wish I could afford to do it for free).
My expenses are cut as low as I can go, I am not one of those no cable people. I will one day list my monthly expenses. I recently cut my grocery bill to about $80 - $100 a month. That includes personal hygene and household products so I am doing great. And I cut my hair care to roughly $10 every six months since I do it myself or get a friend to do it for a good meal.
Got any budget crunching ideas to share?
I understand the hoops you must jump to get the certification, my wife finally got through all of them. Glad you got part time job gig worked out. Even if you're a cake person, maybe resort to cupcakes? ;p
Yeah I have no idea what your monthly expenses are but it sounds like you got food and personal down pretty low at $100 bucks. Even for a single female that seems really low on a monthly basis. I'm not one for using the term 'budget' but rather a spending outlook for the month so I track my income and outgo. I'll post something regarding my system one of these days. Food, clothing, shelter, utilities, and transportation are the basic needs in that order. Cutting down the food budget is the last place I would trim. I like your hair system though, the barter system is still alive and well.
There's seriously nothing? Not even a coffee shop?
Mickey d's is the worst place to work.. ever

You asked if Jim had any more saving ideas. There are hundreds! Some save only a few cents a day some much more. I have listed a few each week on my blog. Take a look and see if any help you. Some seem so obvious to me but I am always amazed at how many people think they are new. blog.TotallyReady.com
Be glad you don't live in CA getting a credential here is really...awful. I just began today asking for posts about what people are doing from home to make extra money. Check back often as we get suggestions maybe one will work for you. Can you sew? Everyone here is looking for someone to teach their kids to sew. Think about your talents and what you can teach. I could go on and on...good luck

Wow that was me not so long ago. I was at wits end trying to work out what to do! That was until I was introduced to a part time business venture that cost me next to nothing to get into. It is now not far away from earning me the same amount that my full time income does. You might want to have a look at it or not..?
