So it finally clicked that you are actually supposed to blog everyday or at least often. I am such a slacker and procrastinator even when it comes to things that I want to do. On to the update
My finances are a joke. The New Teacher program is draining every bit of cash that I have. The program has us driving to three different sides of the city during peak hours in order to "prepare" the new teachers to enter the classroom in February. Because of the long days and no access to a microwave it is so much easier to eat out than bring lunch and dinner. I do not know if I am going to make it until they finally give us our first paycheck. And speaking of paycheck they are paying us by the day but who works 12 hour days? I am really trying to stay focused on the fact that it is not the horrible, distant school that I left and that I will be closer to home, giving myself a break when it comes to traveling expenses.
Debt repayment Update
Credit Card debt - no extra payments
Emergency Fund - added no funds
In a recent post I stated that I wanted to pay off one of credit cards this month but since getting a new furnace for my home and also needing some essential car repairs, again I have to push back debt repayment for the here and now. I hope that one day soon I will be able to concentrate on paying down my debt that is constantly on my mind every time I have to spend money or pay a bill.
New Job Update
I just received my new teacher contract and learned that the mandatory 12 month payment that was implemented has been removed. So I will be a 10 month employee. Which is great because it will increase my monthly income, not so good because now I need to budget for the other 2 months. I want to get a part time job, and hopefully something where I can increase my hours in the summer.
Education
I am trying to learn to pace myself when it comes to schooling. I have to take mandated certification classes but my ultimate goal is to earn a Ph.D. I wanted to enroll in Ph.D courses but I am concerned I would be able to do both what is needed for work as well as what is needed to pursue my dream (since the 3rd grade)...

I wouldn't worry about the posting everyday thing; once or twice a week is plenty if you don't have things to say every day. You'll eventually find a posting frequency that feels right for you. It does get a little annoying when people who normally post regularly suddenly go for weeks without writing anything and don't announce in advance that they'll be gone.
I found your blog and can relate with your situation. My wife just graduated with her masters and is looking for a teaching job now. We have been hanging in there on my income while she was doing student teaching, earning no income, and it's getting very difficult.
Your plan right now sounds like mine. No extra on credit cards and nothing going to the EF. Probably not the best plan to use when getting out of debt, but better days will come. That first paycheck will be worth it when it comes. I'm counting down days until I get my bonus even though only half of it ends up in my hands and the government takes the rest. Goals to use it on is bring back the EF to 1k and pay off some debt.
Teach summer school! The money is good, you gain experience and it's usually just about a month so you still have to time to recover and gear up for the new school year. As well as you get to know colleagues from other schools in your district (depending where you are).
Also, once you get settled into teaching and have the rhythm down, look into a retail job for no more than ten hours a week. It will give you a little bit of extra money and get you out of the house.
Until I started teaching overseas, I always worked summer school and had an evening/weekend job. It made life easier. Best of luck to you!
My wife is also a teacher and she's on the full 12 month contract but only works 10 months out of the year... you need to try and have a 12 month contract so you can get a paychech every month... during summers you can earn extra income.
Trust me, you will not make it without a paycheck for 2 months...
Unfortunately, Our Debt Blog, the 12 month contract is not an option in my district. So I am trying to find out about summer school now, looking into some summer camps, and thinking about getting a part time tutor job that rolls into the summer.
